MoDOT releases “Tough Choices Ahead” plan

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission Wednesday approved MoDOT’s plan to focus its limited resources.

By 2017, MoDOT’s construction budget will drop to $325-million. Director Dave Nichols told the Commission Wednesday that amount of funding will allow the department to do the maintenance and upkeep of 8,000 miles of the more than 34,000 miles of highways in Missouri. That will include primary roads that connect cities across the state.  The remaining 26,000 miles would be eligible for emergency repair and patching only.

Nichols told the commission that an additional $160 million a year would allow the department to match federal funds and keep the state’s system of highways in its current condition.
