Key Missouri lawmaker says session priorities will include tort and labor reform

Rep. Elijah Haahr, R-Springfield, says priorities for the 2018 legislative session will include reining in liability lawsuits and changing wage requirements for public construction projects.

“I think you can look at a lot of the things that we passed out last year that we were not able to get to the governor’s desk and get signed as kind of a road map to what we’ll work on,” says Haahr.

“We fully agree with and applaud Speaker-in-waiting Haahr’s assessment of the importance of tort reform in upcoming sessions,” said Ray McCarty, president of Associated Industries of Missouri. “We passed a couple of key bills last year, but we have a very long list of tort issues that need to be addressed over the next several years. We thank Speaker Todd Richardson for his help so far and look forward to his help in the future, as well as Rep. Haahr and Floor Leader Rob Vescovo. Their support will be crucial to our success on behalf of Missouri employers,” said McCarty.

The 2018 legislative session begins Wednesday.
