Governor Greitens names new labor chief

Governor Eric Greitens announced that Anna Hui, Acting Director of the Illinois Department of Labor, will become the new Director of the Missouri Department of Labor. Hui also previously served as the Chief of Staff to Elaine Chao, former U.S. Secretary of Labor and current U.S. Secretary of Transportation, during the Secretary’s tenure at the Heritage Foundation. Governor Greitens released the following statement, “Anna Hui has proven herself to be a fearless change agent at the state and federal level. We are honored to have her join us to shake up Jefferson City and bring some much needed reforms to the Missouri Department of Labor.”

Anna Hui released the following statement, “I share Governor Greitens’ vision of reform to better serve workers, businesses, and taxpayers. I thank him for this significant opportunity to lead the Department of Labor and look forward to working hard to promote the wellbeing of employees in Missouri.”

Anna Hui currently serves as the Acting Director for the Illinois Department of Labor, having previously served as Assistant Director. She has worked to improve the state’s public safety and worker protection programs, as well as wage and hour programs to ensure good government that encourages job creation and fair pay. She has also served as Chief of Staff to Elaine Chao at The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. She served as Associate Deputy Secretary of Labor for the U.S. Department of Labor, where she coordinated major domestic and international programs and activities on labor and workforce safety and standards issue. At the U.S. Department of Labor, Hui spearheaded efforts to encourage diversity and the inclusion of historically underserved communities in the Department’s programs and Federal government management. She will be the first Asian-American to hold a cabinet level position in Missouri history.
